Back to School Night

Okay, I know I'm getting out of order. I have some great August pictures to post as that was our trip month, but we just got back from the kids' Back to School Night and I have to post about it.

First we went to Hunter's class. He was SOOOOOOOOO excited to show us EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING!! He wouldn't even wait for us to round the little ones to where he was running to before he would start telling us about it. Which wouldn't have been too bad if we'd been the only ones there, but there were at least 5 other kindergartners with their families talking in the room too. We kept telling him to wait for everyone (mostly the other parent) but we finally just gave up and followed him the best we could. We learned all about the listening station (they actually still use a tape player!!!!), the block section, the kitchen section, the he didn't "know what these are, but here they are", the paint, playdooh, question of the day board.... you get the idea. I'm not sure what else some of the things Hunter showed Andy were as I was chasing Jade and Jonathan, but we saw every little part of his room. Hunter is SO excited to be in Kindergarten. I joked to Andy that school would be the last place most people would like to die and go to, but for Hunter it would be 7th Heaven!!! Hunter's teacher is good. I like her, which is saying something considering the teachers Christiana has had since we moved to this school. Kindergarten has only been going for almost 2 weeks, but she is aware of Hunter's reading abilities and is already looking out for him. She still hasn't finished testing his reading level but I will be interested to see where he falls.

We then went to Christiana's classroom. Again, she was very excited to show us everything, but in a more mature, organized way. Her teacher had a checklist of things for the kids to show their parents, so Christiana very methodically went down the list, telling and showing us every little thing. She is quite happy in her 3rd grade class, and I am quite pleased with it too. I am glad to know that this school actually had decent teachers. Her teacher is VERY on top of things and where Christiana is at and has already put her in the top groups. I mentioned that Christiana started multiplication last year and she jumped on that and asked Christiana if she wanted to continue working with multiplication or stay with addition. I haven't been this happy with a teacher since Ms. Huntley, her first grade teacher back in the David Douglas District. Mrs. McGill loves Christiana (who wouldn't) and is a great fit for her.

It is so nice to be happy with the teachers my kids have. I didn't realize how spoiled I had been over at the other elementary school with teachers. It is such a relief to be content with the level of education my kids are going to get this year. After last year I have learned not to take that for granted. We had a great night at the school and having a more in depth meeting with Christiana's and Hunter's teachers.
