So we made it through October, all in one piece. It became more crazy, so let me update you on that.
Christiana came home from school on Tuesday before the program with a fever. The swine flu had hit our house! She wasn't too sick, she had a fever so couldn't go to school, but didn't feel so sick that she wanted to lay in bed. Christiana was just getting over her fever on the Sunday of the program, but we kept her home as a precaution, which happened to be the same day Jade started her fever. Jonathan stayed home with Andy so that I wouldn't have to deal with him up on the stand during the program, and Hunter and I headed to church. The program went very well, especially considering what we had been dealing with. Several of the kids were willing to pitch in and read extra lines. Some of them were warned during the Saturday practice, but a few were asked to read extra parts as they were standing at the podium in front of their parents. After the program, I ran home to swap with Andy as he had to teach Deacons.
Monday came and Christiana went to school but Jade was now sick. Her fever spiked up to 104 and after a call to the doctor we were given a prescription for Tama-flu. We started her on that and Jonathan got sick. His fever also spiked to 104, but not for as long as Jade's had. When they started getting better Hunter started his fever. Hunter was sick over Halloween, so we didn't really celebrate. Christiana went out trick-or-treating a little (no I didn't get pictures), but that was it. We didn't even carve our pumpkins (which we grew in our garden!) I'm not sure if you guys know this or if you have been counting, but this is now 3 weeks worth of sickness in which I was housebound! Thankfully (sort of) Jade and Jonathan were sick at the same time (thus the sort-of, two whinny sick kids are hard to deal with) so it wasn't' 4 weeks, but even with that I was going INSANE!!!!!
I was so relieved when Hunter went back to school and Andy and I hadn't caught the flu. I was thinking November would be better... HA!!!
A few days after Hunter went back to school I saw him itching his head...more than normal. I just ignored it. (We had had a someone with lice in our Primary but that had been several weeks before, and they weren't in the same primary class.) Well, on Tuesday a week after he had been back to school from the flu I checked his head....and there they were LICE!!!!! I couldn't believe it, and the timing couldn't really have been worse. Andy and I were taking the older two to the coast that night for fun because the next day was Veterans Day and there was no school for any of them. So I called Andy at work and he left his tutoring and came straight home to pick up some medicine for me, while I was making phone calls (this was Tuesday, I teach piano ALL day on Tuesdays). We treated him and then left on our trip. We had a wonderful time at the coast, playing games and walking on the beach. We came home and started washing EVERYTHING!!! On Thursday as he was getting ready for school I checked his head again and found more lice. So he stayed home and I gave him a buzz cut. I then checked Jonathan (I had checked all the kids on Tuesday and there was nothing) and he had 1 louse, so he also got a buzz cut and was treated. Christiana also had 1 louse on her head, but she did not get a buzz cut. So things didn't really get any better when October was over, but I think I'm dealing with it much better now.
On the plus side, I know what all the kids are getting for Christmas and for their birthdays (who ever thought I would be so annoyed that Jonathan's birthday wasn't at Christmastime with everyone else!). Now to figure out gifts for Andy and for the kids to give each other (we draw names) and for me. I have even bought most of the gifts, several are being made so I'm sure those won't happen until later, but lets keep this positive!
On the whole I'm feeling much better about life. I still haven't started going back to the gym, but I did win a one year membership to a gym just 5 min from our house, so that will make it MUCH easier to go, or going back to storytime. But I know I will and I think I am adjusting to this speed-up of life. I know life continually gets faster, I just don't remember ever having the jump in speed be so drastic at one time.
