We love you Grandma Stanley!

Jade, Grandma Stanley, & Lauren Matheny Aug. 2008
Andy's grandma Stanley died somewhat unexpectedly yesterday afternoon. She had been getting sicker (as in her age, not a specific illness) and had been in the hospital earlier this month, but we were not expecting her to pass on quite this soon. Andy and Christiana went down to Dan and Nancy's to drop off some stuff and got to eat breakfast with her on Wednesday as she was staying with them as she recouperated from being in the hospital. It was the highlight of Christiana's day, and maybe even her week.
When I got home from church yesterday (sick kids, Andy and the two little ones stayed home) Andy said that Nancy had called and said that Grandma was doing worse. Then about 30 min after I got home Nancy called again and said that Grandma Stanley was in a coma and they were disconnecting the oxygen and we needed to get down to say goodbye. Before we could head down, we were called that she had passed on. Christiana has taken it really hard, as she knew her best of our kids. We would go out on "Girls' Lunch" dates with Grandma Stanley, Nancy, me and Christiana.
We have wonderful memories of Grandma and will surely miss her!!

As a cute side note, when we sat the kids down and told them Grandma had died, Hunter said matter-of-factly, "oh, that is sad, she was nice." Then he was ready to move on, oh to be 5.

I'm sorry about your grandma. It's hard when death happens so unexpectedly and you don't get to say good-bye. It's especially hard for kids. We've had a lot of deaths in our family (with grandparents and great grandparents) and I've been really impressed with how my kids handle it. They're sad, but when we remind them that they're just going to live with Heavenly Father again, they're o.k. with it. Rylen (3) is especially cute...with the passing of Kenny's grandma he said, "I'll miss her, but she'll be happy because she is going to live with Heavenly Father again." I'm constantly amazed at what kids pick up on and how they handle difficult situations!

Sorry for her death, but how neat that your kids will have some memories of their great grandma to remember.

My grandpa just died last week and I returned from his funeral on Saturday. Wish I'd known him better, but I am glad for the memories I do have of him.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I wish I lived closer so I could come and give you a hug! It's such a tough thing for little ones to understand. How wonderful that we have the gospel to help us do it.
