So I don't normally do anything special for April Fool's day. I think I was outdone by my brother enough times that I just quit trying. (I'll never forget my mom running into the kitchen at breakfast yelling "Stop don't eat that!! As she realized that dearest Kent had exchanged the ENTIRE sugar bowl with SALT. This was back in the day when we put sugar on our cereal of course.) However, last night I was looking through my Family Fun (I think it was that one) magazine and saw a couple of "tricks" that I thought our kids would enjoy. I sure wish I could have video taped their reactions, but then they would have know something was up.
So the first thing I did was put food coloring in the bottom of their cereal bowls. I had a red, blue, and yellow bowl that I put a couple of drops of each corresponding color in. I then asked each of them (as they were getting up and getting dressed) what kind of cereal they wanted. I poured the cereal in as they were coming, set the bowls on the table and poured the milk. Hunter's was the first I poured. It was the yellow one and didn't change color immediately. Christiana was next with blue, hers had a slight blue tint but only if you looked in the right spot (and knew it was there.) Then Jonathan's was the red one. His turned red IMMEDIATELY. The kids were so surprised, and then I "noticed" Christiana's bowl which was now noticeable blue. And when we all looked at Hunter's his was just starting to go a little yellow. The kids decided that the paint was coming off the bowls and making the milk change color. It was priceless to see their faces and listen as they tried to figure out what was happening, I just can't explain it. After a few minutes I just busted up laughing and told them what happened. Christiana went ahead and ate hers, but I had to get new cereal for Hunter and Jonathan. My advice for doing this is put more food coloring in, use dark colors, and maybe try it out first so you know how much and how quickly it will react.

Then this afternoon we did snack. I had put out some cups with "kool-aid" in it and some pudding. Aren't I a nice mom?
Hunter was the first to try and drink his, he sucked and sucked and nothing came up out of his straw. Jonathan was trying too, but he soon pulled his straw out and tried to eat the jello on it, but thankfully the older two didn't notice that. It took Hunter a while to pull his straw out and notice that it wasn't kool-aid but Jello. About that time was when Christiana went to take her first drink, so that was a little bit of a dud cause Hunter figured it out then. But on the whole it went well.
So for my first April Fool's I think I did pretty good!

Those are some great ideas! I'm definately going to steal those for in the future.
